Your first visit with your midwife is an opportunity to get to know one another in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Your midwife will explain how the midwives in the practice cooperate with one another with respect to back up, regular time off and annual leave. You can expect to meet your back up midwife at some time during your pregnancy either at your scheduled antenatal appointment or by a special appointment
During your first visit, a full midwifery assessment will be carried out according to your gestation. These records will be recorded in the EXPECT midwifery programme on the computer. After your first appointment your LMC will send you a link to the “client portal” so that you can access your midwifery notes at any time. Your notes can be printed off or stored electronically. You will have access to the portal for 3 months after the birth of your baby. Your LMC will always be able to access your records after this time.
At each subsequent visit your midwife will complete regular checks which will include taking your blood pressure, testing your urine and assessing the wellbeing of you and your baby.
